The Owens Student Government has a new president after the group’s former leader, James Ruane, stepped down.

Nicholas Calmes now takes over as president after serving as vice president.

Calmes says he’s excited to take on the new responsibilities although he’s a little afraid because of his involvement in so many other clubs and activities on campus. One of his goals is to “unite” the students and create a campus that people feel more connected with.

One of his first acts as president is starting a recycling drive.  Students can recycle old notebooks, backpacks, folders, and other supplies.  Then they will be distributed to students in need the following semester.  He would like to be able to do this each semester.
